Some Random Thoughts..
Just a place to put some random thoughts..

Hi,

Coming up with interesting titles for blog post is really annoying and I am going to stop it from now on. Not that my earlier posts had interesting titles but I at least tried my best. No trying from now on.

Anyways, on with the post. Yesterday I finished the second Foundation book almost a year after reading the first one. It is a good book but first one was definitely better. First one was more about the psychology and a little philosophy. But this one has less of it and tried to be a thriller with a climax (which was way too apparent) in the end. Maybe it was an original work in 1950s but I have seen/read a lot other stories with twists like that.

Good book none the less. And now I will go and get the next foundation book. :)

Hi,

Here was a critically acclaimed, pride of all marathi people, winner of national award and selected for oscars movie. It was released last year and since then I wanted to watch it. Finally I could watch it on TV last night with a ten minutes commercial break after every twenty minutes.

And I liked it. I liked it because it is a genuine effort. But it could have been better. The story is about so many things and it needed a director who is not confused about his priorities. In my opinion (which doesn't matter at all) the director tried to do too many things in too little time. He tried to comment about grandfather-grandchild relationship, village-city comparison, doctor-patient relationship, medical system and many other things. And when the movie ends it makes you feel that there definitely was a strong potential in each of these things. All in all it was touching story and movie looked almost real.

Hats off to the Shwaas team for a good effort.

Hi,

You get up at 11 in the morning. You can hear your computer humming not so quietly in the room. You look at the table clock on the dressing table and make sure its not earlier than 11. If it is then you go back to sleep again. The reason in very simple and mathematical, you slept at 4 in the morning and you need at least 7 hours of sleep. You get up, turn on the monitor of your computer and check the status of the downloads you have scheduled three days ago in aMule. You check your computer uptime and wonder if you should give the poor machine some rest today. But then you remind yourself that the movie you are downloading is probably the only entertainment you are going to have on otherwise boring coming weekend. So your computer has to work extra hard. Tough luck buddy.

You get ready and call up your friend. You ask him about the lunch plan. He and others will be waiting for you in the usual boring place for lunch. You tell them to place the usual order if you are a bit late. Then you decide to be a bit late.

and the routine goes on..

Hi,

Yesterday India played against Sri Lanka at Nagpur and The Man was where he belongs. After six months medical break Sachin Tendulkar was back on the field. It was a perfect come back. He was a carefree, aggressive Sachin of yesteryear. He was taking risks, hitting his shots. He got lucky sometimes but that dint slow him down. Finally he got out on 93 and India went on to win the game.

Another surprise from the same match was a gamble by Greg Chappel that paid off big time. He promoted Irfan Pathan in the batting order. This young man was full of confidence and managed to outscore Sachin with his big shots. I think he has a potential to be a really good all-rounder.

And then came The Wall, the Captain and blasted the lankan bowling attack. Rahul made 80+ in some 60 balls. He was way too cool. Some people said that he wanted to impress his in-laws who are native of Nagpur. If that were true, why did Azza always play well in Kolkata? ;)

Tomorrow is the next match. Stay tuned.

Hi,

This blog is making a come back. Taking a cue from "Mazha Sachin", it wants to score points and win hearts of all the readers. But it knows its limitation. It is but a mediocre blog that doesnt know its place in the blogosphere. Many times it wants to say something but shuts up because it is scared that its words might cause a minor embarrassment for it at some later point in its life. It wants to talk about itself. A lot. But then it knows the fate of the blogs which are too personal and always talks about themselves.

It wants to be popular and hip. It wants to adopt I-don't-give-a-rat's-ass attitude and say things like "IIPM sucks". But in reality it is scared and it does give much more than a rats ass. It thinks a lot before saying anything and in the end decides that staying put and waiting for the time when it has absolutely the right things to say that can make it hip and popular is the way to go.

It wants to be witty. It thinks a lot about this and spends nights and nights looking at the ceiling and thinking about some smart and witty, the kind that makes people smile and respect you. things. It is constantly on the lookup for the stories.

But alas.. There are limitations.

Hi,

Currently I am on a download spree, trying to make full use of the broadband connection. I am planning to backup all the movies I download as VCDs so that my parents can play it in the VCD player they have at home. I use ,, trio to do the task and it works great on my Ubuntu Hoary.

Sometime back I downloaded a chinese movie just to find that it is without english subtitles. So I went ahead and downloaded the subtitles file separately. Now I could watch the movie using with the subtites but it was very jerky and I could not set font size and position and things like that. I could integrate the subtitles in the video using avidemux subtitler filter. But a little bit of googling told me about a bug in that plugin. It couldnt split a long subtitle sentence into multiple lines depending upon the font size. So I wrote a small python script to do that. It needs module installed.

Heres the script. It is a hackjob and if you use it and find any bugs, please let me know.
